went to the woods yesterday to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend time with old friends. did a lot of talking and walking and remembering.
i must admit we also did a lot of sitting around the campsite and eating:) Llisa makes the worlds greatest hummus! Beyond the hammock is the Coldwater river, it has that name for a very good reason! The first time I ever got in that river I about froze my head! Now you have to understand that this is in the middle of the day and as you can see from my friends attire it is nice and warm in the middle of the day. The river beckons. So meandering down one thinks of how nice it would be to cool off in the inviting cool water. Then you jump in and about freeze the water is sooooo cooooold! Most of my friends and I go back and forth, in the river and out on the sandbar, in the river and out on the sandbar. Then back to the cool shade of the Juniper and Oaks. And of course the food and cold drinks. I put my water in the little feeder creek and they were pleasantly chilled for drinking.
These are some folks who flew all the way from New York City to join us in the woods. My friends and I gathered on this particular weekend to honor the memory of one of our friends who passed across the veil recently.
You can read more about Cayne at http://nolamotion.wordpress.com/2009/01/08/cayne-miceli-rip/I started going to the river as part of Kee-O-Kee back in the 80's. I met these friends there and enjoyed many a relaxing day visiting and recharging amonst this unique circle of people. As we reminiced about the old days one of the women paused and asked "Who is behind me?" There was no living soul behind her but the general consensus was that Cayne was here in spirit to enjoy the cameraderie:)
The only problem these days is that I'm getting too old to sleep on the ground in a tent! I hate it but it's reality. The last time I camped out I paid for it for a week. So I am presently dreaming of the days when I can afford to have my dream camper, a gypsy vardo:)
